Question:

What is a template?

Answer:

The Job Shop PowerSites template is the “skeleton” of your website. It defines the physical layout and operation of your site. Your content (text, photographs, colors, and graphics) is added to our template to create a unique website for your business. You save thousands of dollars using our template-based system because we are not re-inventing the wheel each time we build a website.

Question:

What is the technology behind the Job Shop PowerSites website template?

Answer:

The Job Shop PowerSites template system is the result of an ongoing collaboration between job shop owners, purchasing agents and software technology professionals. The template system is powered by Microsoft® SQLServer2000™ (database management software) and uses Active Server Pages (ASP) to construct your website on-the-fly from your information in our database. This state-of-the-art technology allows us to create a website that grows in sync with your business at a fraction of the cost of a comparable, traditionally designed website.

Question:

What is a domain name?

Answer:

A domain name is the name by which your Internet visitors know your company (jobshoppowersites.com). Your domain name is part of the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) that your Internet visitors enter to reach your website (http://www.jobshoppowersites.com). Your domain name is “resolved”, or translated, on the Internet into a specific Internet Protocol (IP) address (207.178.254.10) that directs your Internet visitor to the computer (server) that hosts your website. Your domain name is like your telephone number on the Internet.

Question:

How do I get a domain name for my business?

Answer:

A domain name must be registered through one of many companies (called registrars) that register domain names. The costs and services vary from company to company. Job Shop PowerSites recommends and uses Network Solutions®, a Verisign® company (www.netsol.com). The cost to register your website with Network Solutions® is currently $35.00 per year with discounts available for multiple-year registrations. Job Shop PowerSites will register your domain name for you at no additional charge.

Question:

What if I already have a domain name?

Answer:

We can point any existing domain name to your new Job Shop PowerSites website by changing the domain name server (DNS) information through your current registrar. It may sound complicated but it's not and Job Shop PowerSites will take care of it for you at no extra charge.

Question:

What if I already have a website?

Answer:

Your existing website will remain active while your new Job Shop PowerSites website is being built. When your new site is finished, we change the domain name server (DNS) information through your current registrar. Your old website goes offline and your new website takes its place simultaneously. Job Shop PowerSites takes care of this change for you at no extra charge.

Question:

How do I market my new Job Shop PowerSites website?

Answer:

Your website is a very effective sales tool. There are several ways to market your Job Shop PowerSites website. First, your web address (www.yourcompany.com) should appear on all of your company’s literature (letterhead, business cards, brochures, etc.). Second, send out postcards, letters or emails to all of your current customers to announce your new website. Third, be sure to mention your new website during conversations with current and potential customers and colleagues. Fourth, and most important, make sure your prospective customers know where they can visit your company online by including your web address on all of your promotional materials.

Question:

What about search engines?

Answer:

Here is our two-cents on search engines. If someone is looking for you or someone in your area that does what you do, they will probably find your website on a search engine. If someone is looking for any business, anywhere, that does what you do, they may find you, buried amoung thousands of other businesses around the world. Most search engines now charge you to be listed at the top of their general results list. So, unless you are willing to pay big bucks month-in and month-out, your business will never get noticed in a general search. Bottom line: contract manufacturing is still very much a personal-contact-oriented sales effort. Most buyers have stacks of cards from would-be suppliers and don’t need a search engine to find new ones. Once you make contact with a prospective buyer, your website is the most effective way to get in, present your business and start a communication with a potential customer.

Question:

Does Job Shop PowerSites submit my website to search engines?

Answer:

Yes. Our Webmaster Service includes automatic monthly submittals of your website to thousands of search engines around the world. Carefully chosen html text, keywords and page descriptions help your website get noticed by potential customers looking for your particular products and services. See the question “What about search engines?” for more information.
